Dry Ice Cleaning for Electrical Equipment & Switchboards

Dust, carbon and grime on electrical equipment is more than a housekeeping issue — it traps heat, tracks current and shortens the life of expensive assets. The problem is that you can’t clean a switchboard with water or solvents. Dry ice blasting is non-conductive, so it removes contamination from switchgear, bus bars, motor windings and control panels without any moisture. In many situations the equipment can stay energised after a risk assessment, which means no shutdown and no lost production. The pellets sublimate on contact, so nothing is left behind in sensitive assemblies but the dislodged dust.

Cleaning energised equipment safely

Because CO2 carries no charge and adds no moisture, dry ice is one of the few methods suited to electrical assets. Whether equipment is isolated or energised is decided case by case — we complete a risk assessment first and work to your site’s electrical safety requirements. Where a shutdown isn’t practical, dry ice lets us clean around live components with none of the flashover risk that water or chemical cleaning would introduce.

What we clean

Switchboards and distribution boards

Bus bars, cable trays and conduit

Control panels, PLCs and drives

Transformers and substations

Motor windings, stators and generators

Why not water, air or solvents

Compressed air just relocates conductive dust deeper into the assembly. Water and solvents create corrosion and flashover risk and force a shutdown for drying. Dry ice removes carbon tracking, dust and contamination cleanly, leaves the assembly dry, and returns it to service immediately.

FAQ - Straight answers, no sales fog

Can you clean equipment while it's live?

In many cases yes, after a risk assessment; some assets are better isolated first. We assess each job.

Yes — thermal shock and impact lift carbon and dust from surfaces without abrasion.

Dry ice is widely used on switchgear, transformers and motors in industrial and power settings.
